Attorney Stephen Balsley received the Service Above Self Award from the Rockford Rotary in recognition of his service with and through the Club. This is the Club’s highest honor, and is given to a select few members each year.

Between three to seven Service Above Self Awards are presented each year to those who are chosen from persons nominated by the Club Membership.  Winners are persons whom the Committee members have found to have extended themselves in volunteer efforts benefiting their fellow Rockfordians  and who have thereby made our community a better place to live.

Next time you see Mr. Balsley, congratulate him on this award, and thank him for his selfless dedication to community and quality of life.


Mr. Balsley graduated with honors from the University of Illinois Law School where he had served on the Law Review Board of Editors. Joining the firm in 1972, he has a general practice with an emphasis on commercial transactions, real estate, bankruptcy, and commercial litigation. Mr. Balsley is a Bankruptcy Panel Trustee, serving in the Northern District of Illinois, United States Bankruptcy Court.

Mr. Balsley is very active in the Rockford community, having served as a board member and officer of various local business and charitable organizations.
