Jason H. Rock

Jason joined the Barrick Switzer Law Firm as an associate attorney in 1994. Jason was promoted to Partner in 1999. Jason is a current member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Winnebago County Bar Association, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

The primary concentration for Jason’s law practice is the representation and protection of the interests of small businesses and their owners. Jason assists his business clients with real estate, transactional, and employment matters. Jason also specializes in corporate formation as well as buying and selling business assets.

Jason recently represented a North Carolina medical device equipment reseller in a private equity sale and equity contribution and rollover exchange positioning the transactional parties in a mutually beneficial industry alliance. Jason also provided specialized corporate legal assistance to a well-known group of local Rockford entrepreneurs and musicians in their ongoing effort to obtain capital through “crowd funding” their promising beverage product.

Jason served as Winnebago County Bar Association Bankruptcy Section President in 2000 and 2007 and served as the 2018 Winnebago County Bar Association Real Estate Section president. Jason has also presented at various legal seminars on topics such as perfection and enforcement of mechanic’s liens, intersection of bankruptcy and divorce matters, application of Illinois asset exemptions, and bankruptcy preference claims and related defenses. In 1997, Jason successfully argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals defending against a creditor claim that its interest in real estate transferred pre-petition by a Chapter 7 debtor was superior to the statutory interests of a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee.

As voted by the Rockford area, Jason was also named “Best Bankruptcy Attorney” in 2021 and 2022 in the annual What Rocks Community’s Choice Awards.

Jason is a past volunteer board President for the Rockford Boys and Girls Club. Jason also served on volunteer boards for the Rockford Art Museum and Laurent Foundation. Jason taught bankruptcy as a special business law instructor at Highland Community College.

Jason attended Rockford Guilford High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and an Illinois State Scholar. In his senior year, he was the recipient of the United States Army Male Scholar Athlete Award. Jason was a conference wrestling champion and a team and individual State qualifier in golf.

Prior to graduating from law school, Jason worked as an assistant golf professional, and he worked as a legal intern at Sundstrand Corporation assigned to various pension plan compliance and human relations matters.
